Upcycled fashion for well-read degenerates.

Hi, I’m Ren, a well-read degenerate. And Fable & Fame is my baby. Seriously, I’m a millennial and I can’t afford children, so I have this and a cat.

But honestly, this project has mission-creeped its way into owning sizable real-estate investments in my heart. As an artist, I’ve always had a really strong interest in functional art because I want everything around me to be beautiful/interesting/whimsical/thought-provoking–I’m a maximalist and a devout believer in the architectural philosophy of, “It couldn’t cost that much to just stick a few gargoyles up there on that roof.”

Fable & Fame is my way of putting those gargoyles on you. You’re the roof now.

But also, Fable & Fame is my love letter to community and our planet. It’s one thing I can do to help educate people about the impact of textile production on our climate and provide them with an alternative option to add to the growing list of my peers in this space who, together, are creating a new landscape for secondhand fashion.

In a world where overconsumption and overproduction are the norms, choosing to reuse what is already made is an act of defiance. It’s also a statement using the loudest megaphone we as consumers can access: our wallets.

Together, wearing art made by myself or any one of the thousands of upcyclers out here envisioning ways that art can be beautiful, make us feel beautiful, and ensure we have a beautiful world for future generations, we are an installation art piece bigger than any museum could hold. The exhibition theme is “Existential Crisis, but make it fashion.”
